10 Ways to Stay Fit: A Guide for Working Moms

Working moms do it all; they work hard every day to provide for their family, manage the household, and take care of the schedules for the whole family. And sometimes we can still make a healthy dinner out of zucchini noodles thanks to Pinterest that the kids might not necessarily eat.

Taking time to take care of yourself is often pushed to the wayside. Understandably, many working moms do not have time to go to a gym or even find the time to work out consistently. Exercise sometimes creeps down the list of priorities for the day. But taking care of your health and fitness should be a major priority.

Don’t know where to start? Here is a list of a few ways that working moms can stay healthy and fit:

  • Make that doctor’s appointment– Getting a physical once a year, as well as a gynecological visit when you need one is the best way to take care of your health.
  • Drink plenty of water– I feel like you’ve heard this before, but making sure you drink about eight glasses a day, especially when you are exercising, helps your body immensely.
  • Get Counting – Whether it’s a wrist watch, cellphone app, or pedometer, these devices really show us how active we truly are in a day.
  • Become a Member – Gym memberships can be pricey, but now you can sign up with no contract for $10 at some gym or get a family plan at the YMCA. Extended hours mean you can go in before or after work and take the kids, if you don’t have a sitter.
  • Evening walks – This is a great opportunity to get the whole family involved! The best part is disconnecting from a screen and being in the world around you.
  • Even More Walking – We know we said it already, but little steps add up! Try parking further at the grocery store, walk the kids to school, or even take five-minute walking breaks at your job. Every step counts.
  • Commercial-Break Work-Outs – Catching up on Modern Family? Make a squats, pushups, or sit-ups challenge a part of your family TV time.
  • Meal Prepping – Probably the hardest to do but can save time (and money) throughout the week. Recruit the family to participate on the weekends, so everyone can enjoy their food choices.
  • Dance Parties – Cardio workouts that involve the kids can be fun. Just make sure to take turns with music selection, or you’ll never get the lyrics to “Baby Shark” out of your head.
  • Schedule Exercise Time- If you use Outlook at work or Google calendar, you know that scheduling something means you’re more likely to do it. Start with 15 to 25 minutes a day and get motivated.

Staying healthy and active can be incredibly difficult for any mom, but it is possible. With a little preparation and unconventional thinking, little steps can be taken towards good health each day. It is also a great way to motivate your family to follow in your footsteps.
