QueensCare Health Centers Educates Parents About Children’s Eyesight and Mobile Device Usage
WHO: QueensCare Health Centers (QHC), a leading community health care provider with five health centers located throughout Los Angeles is hosting a vision care event on Thursday, March 14th, educating parents about healthy vision tips for their kids.
WHAT: March is Save Your Vision Month and a chance to educate people about proper vision care and mobile device usage. According to the Association of Optometrists, most parents are concerned about how much screen time is too much for their kids and if there are damaging effects of using mobile devices. A recent study from Harvard Medical School highlighted the detrimental effects of blue light and how it negatively affects sleep quality and looking at devices for prolonged periods can cause eye strain.
Steps parents can take to protect their children’s vision include:
- Limiting screen time
- Balancing screen time with outside time
- Seeing an optometrist every year
VISUALS/INTERVIEWS: Diverse families receiving vision exams, bringing in their tablets and phones for consultations with optometrists. Doctors will demonstrate
settings on devices to limit blue light emission.
